The State Buildings - a Beautiful Place to Eat and Drink in Perth

Posted on April 01 2021

Louise M shoes Louise Matson shares The State Buildings - one of the best places to eat and drink in Perth

The State Buildings, located on the corner St Georges Terrace and Barrack St is an experience I just had to let you know about. If you are visiting Perth or simply have not been, it is a must do. You will love it!

As stated on the website it is a precinct where health and wellness, retail, and luxury accommodation meets cafes, bars and fine dining restaurants.

Three heritage buildings have been transformed into a vibrant place to meet eat and drink in beautiful surroundings. Six star hotel The Como is within so perhaps book a night and really indulge in all that is on offer in this one destination.

I recently had lunch with my daughter mid week at Petition, filled with corporate executives and their guests, and mum and daughter! The food is fresh, served with style and is delicious. The open kitchen adds to the buzz, and the wait staff are knowledgable about the menu and attentive without interrupting. I have eaten here on other occasions with friends and family. It is great for a quick bite or a relaxing afternoon.

If you are looking for a take away coffee, whether passing on the street nearby or enjoying lunch as we had, stop and say hello to Luke at Telegram coffee. I first met Luke when I was living in North Perth and he was making coffee in the local cafe. Luke is a highly experience barista and now owns and operates Telegram offering 'meticulously crafted' (I say superb!) coffee and treats for you to enjoy on the go or take a seat at one of the stools available nearby. A soy flat white please Luke!

The wine bar at the State Buildings has been renovated since I last visited and I can't wait to visit it again. My three month rest from alcohol is due to finish and Wine Merchant is on my list of places to indulge in a glass or two. Take a seat at the U shaped bar, the tables and chairs throughout or wonder into the State Buildings foyer to enjoy the high ceilings and ornate details of this gorgeous space.  The Wine Merchant has bottles of wine in the fridges to enjoy on location or take away. The wine menu is so good due to the Director of Wine Emma Farrelly being responsible for the selection throughout the State Buildings. Emma has extensive experience and expertise in the industry.  I particularly love the French and Australian choices available so I look forward to relaxing over a Chardonnay or perhaps a Rose, I am yet to decide. Cheers!

When celebrating a special birthday (aren't they all special??) I arranged to have High Tea in the Treasury Lounge and Bar. An intimate space with views to Supreme Court Gardens through large framed windows. The lounge chairs are so comfortable and you feel so decadent sitting in such beautiful interiors.

There are so many venues within for you to experience, and that I must enjoy again, including:

🍺 Beer Corner where you can discover the science of beers from around the world

🍴POST an Italian inspired restaurant🍴

🍴Long Chim offering the 'noise and energy of the streets of Thailand'

🍴Wildflower 'influenced by the six seasons of the indigenous Noongar calendar'

🍸Pooles Temple an underground Parisian inspired late night bar with live jazz.

You may decide to start with breakfast and stay on for lunch, dinner, cocktail hour and late night jazz, I wouldn't blame you for wanting to. Whatever time you have stop by and see the beauty and magnificence the State Buildings have to offer.

In addition to the places to eat and drink this is a very popular and extravagant wedding venue, and has a multitude of events to book. I have reserved tickets to tour the State Buildings to learn more and enjoy an afternoon in this gorgeous space.
