Congratulations you have the job! An easy guide to airline approved cabin crew shoes.

Posted on September 23 2016

So you have been accepted into the airline industry as part of the cabin crew team  (formerly known as a flight attendant). Firstly congratulations that is an amazing achievement in itself. Enjoy the celebrations!

I am sorry to say this but now the really hard work begins. Ground school is not all about serving tea and coffee, there are emergency procedures to learn, emergency equipment locations for multiple aircraft to learn, and then there is the task of finding the shoes that meet the strict cabin crew uniform requirements.

Why is it that shoes that are perfect for the airline industry are so difficult to find in normal retail stores?

Actually you would think black shoes for women would be the easiest thing to find. However shoes that meet the airline shoe standards for female crew are difficult to find because many stores do not know, or understand, that the heel heights and heel circumference must meet minimum and maximum measurements. Seasons also make it difficult as retail stores stock shoes appropriate to the weather, so finding a closed toe black court shoe in the middle of summer is a challenge.

As a previous crew member I would search from shop to shop to find what I was looking for. It was obvious the stores did not understand in detail the complexity, or should I say the simplicity, of the styles needed. Nor did they particularly want to as they had so many other styles to consider for the regular customer.

So to help you on your way and make shopping for shoes a breeze, I have put together a short video of the standard shoe requirements for airline cabin crew in Australia. Your airline may have some additional guidelines, however if you buy a shoe using the information contained in this video as a guide, you will not go wrong. You will be ahead of the rest of your classmates and will be able to concentrate on your training when in ground school.

Always look your best, spend the most you can afford on quality shoes that ensure you look stylish and professional, feel confident and comfortable, and that will look after your feet for long term good health.

Enjoy your training and love the flying! Safe travels.
